Community Involvement
At Balance Physical Therapy, we believe that community involvement is vital to the long term success of any business. Our company’s involvement in the local community demonstrates a commitment that reaches far beyond our day-to-day business operations, and it helps foster relationships that strengthen the bonds we have with our patients. We have been and continue to be involved in the following community outreach events, services, and programs:
- We serve the Salinas Valley Half Marathon by volunteering at the finish line to provide first aide, manual therapy, joint and soft tissue mobilization, and anything else that the 1,500 + race participants need as they complete this extremely scenic course that begins at the Soledad Mission and finishes among the vines at the Pessagno Winery.
- We are a part of the Relay For Life effort that helps support the American Cancer Society. We have a company Team that raises money through clinic-sponsored raffles, car washes, and donated evaluations, and manual therapy treatments.
- We are very proud of our involvement in the FAST (Fitness And Sports Training) Academy at Salinas High School. Through a large donation from Balance Physical Therapy, in addition to a matching contribution from the school’s booster club, Salinas High School now boasts an enviable athletic training program staffed by our very own Gina Martorella, BS, ATC. The program not only offers students the opportunity to take elective courses in physical therapy and sports medicine, it allows them the opportunity to become student trainers.
- We help sponsor the National Women’s Hardcourt Tennis Championships each year at Chamisal Tennis and Swim club by providing on court first-aide and a triage tent where all the athletes are welcome to come for manual therapy treatments between matches. This is a wonderful tournament that allows our therapists to treat elite athletes while enjoying a beautiful outdoor setting.
- Our clinical staff often speaks and presents at local high schools and community colleges, as well as community health fairs and sports clinics. These include ACL-injury prevention clinics for female high school athletes, Team in Training lectures for marathon preparation, thrower’s clinics for baseball players, and sport-specific circuit training for high-level athletes. We never say no to an opportunity to educate our local community, and we relish the opportunities we’ve had to speak about our profession at various high school career days.
- We maintain contractual relationships with many local schools to help support their Regional Occupation Programs (ROP), and we often have student observers in clinic while experiencing their first exposure to the physical therapy profession. Many of these students have later been employed by our company while on their way toward colleges and universities to pursue a career as a physical therapist.
